Client: Franklin Township Chamber of Commerce
After years of brainstorming on how to create a village atmosphere within downtown Wanamaker, the Franklin Township Chamber of Commerce saw an opportunity when plans were announced to replace local streets and underground utilities. The Chamber commissioned CONTEXT to draft a plan that would address issues such as parking, pedestrian safety and aesthetics. CONTEXT analyzed pedestrian and vehicular conflicts, land use, and existing street cross-sections compared to cross-sections of exemplary streetscapes.
The resulting plan includes restructured on-street parking, reduced curb cuts, and well-defined pedestrian crossings. Proposed bicycle lanes, connections to multi-use trails, and sidewalk improvements to promote walking and window shopping were also presented at an enthusiastic, standing-room-only public forum.
