St. Mary Catholic Parish and School

Greensburg, Indiana

Following a feasibility study of aging church and school facilities in 2006, the parish established a long-term vision to develop a new campus on the southeast edge of Greensburg. CONTEXT was commissioned by entheos Architects to help bring this vision to life. A comprehensive study of development opportunities and constraints shaped the planning process and the resulting master plan. Based on this study and the facility program created with the planning committee, a full range of initial site concepts was developed.

The exploration and refinement of these options led to a solution that sets the stage for the future life of the parish. The solution emphasizes the sanctuary as the entrance focal point and parish icon. Parking and drop-off areas are located to maximize flexibility in support of the array of parish activities, including worship, education, day care, gathering and athletics. The Master Plan was adopted by the parish in September 2008, and detailed design is underway.
