Campus Green Space

Indianapolis, Indiana
Client: The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis

Careful demolition, environmental remediation and monitoring of this abandoned fuel station site was required, but the Museum had a vision for its transformation into a neighborhood amenity. CONTEXT was commissioned to bring that vision to life, including exploration and illustration of the design concept, preparation of construction documents, acquisition of IDEM and City approvals and construction observation.

A limited budget required a variety of creative funding sources to fulfill the vision. IndyGo provided and installed a new bus shelter. Trees were donated by Keep Indianapolis Beautiful and planted with volunteer labor. Museum staff worked tirelessly to demolish existing pavement and install the irrigation system, shrubs, perennials and sod. Thanks to these generous efforts, the space was dedicated on Earth Day 2008.
